Google increasingly shows an AI-written answer above the normal results. We checked what it actually says, and what that means for your business in Algeria.

Google is not just blue links anymore

Search something on Google today, and you often see a block of AI-written text right at the top, before the normal list of results even starts. That is an AI Overview. It summarizes the answer for you, with a few links below to read more.

For a visitor in a hurry, that is convenient: the answer is right there. For a business, it changes something real. A growing share of searches end before a visitor ever clicks a website, yours or a competitor's. If the AI does not mention your business, or gets it wrong, you lose that visitor without ever knowing it happened.

We tested it ourselves, here is what we found

We wanted to see this for ourselves instead of guessing. We searched several terms tied to our own work, website design, SEO, digital agency, in Algeria, and read closely what the AI Overview said back.

Some of what it showed was accurate, real information we could trace and confirm. Some of it was off, or stated a claim as settled fact with no clear source behind it. Nothing in the text itself signaled which was which. We had to check each point one by one, by following the real source links.

That is the real lesson from this test: an AI Overview does not flag when it gets something wrong. The text sounds equally confident either way.

Even Google says its AI can be wrong

This is not just our opinion. Google itself shows a warning under its AI-generated answers, reminding people that these responses can include mistakes and that important information should be checked before relying on it.

That applies to your customers reading an AI Overview about your business, and it applies just as much to you if you use AI to write content, answer a customer, or put together market research. AI can sound sure of itself and still be wrong. With any AI tool, Google's included, the right habit is to check what actually matters before repeating or publishing it.

  • Real, readable text: your services, prices, and city, not buried in an image or a video.
  • Real structured data (schema.org) that clearly describes your business, services, and reviews.
  • A fast site: AI, like a visitor in a hurry, skips a page that loads too slowly.
  • Honest, accurate content: writing made for real people, not invented numbers or vague promises.
  • An up-to-date Google Business Profile, since AI also draws on that information to describe a local business.

This is not the same as regular SEO, or Agentic Browsing

It is easy to mix up an AI Overview with regular SEO or Agentic Browsing, but they are three different things that work together.

Regular SEO helps your site show up in the results list. An AI Overview decides whether to summarize your business in its own text, above that list. Agentic Browsing happens after that: it is an AI agent's ability to actually visit your site and complete a task once it gets there.

Good technical SEO helps on all three fronts at once: a fast, well-structured site with clear information is exactly what Google, AI Overviews, and AI agents are all looking for.

How to check what Google says about you

You do not need a complicated tool to start. Here are three simple things to do today:

  • Search your business name on Google, and check if an AI Overview shows up. If it does, read the whole thing.
  • Compare every claim against reality: your address, hours, services, prices. One wrong detail can be enough to lose a customer.
  • Also search something tied to your work without your business name, like your service plus your city, and see if you show up in the answer at all.

How SimplerWebs prepares your site

  • A full SEO audit that also looks at how AI reads and understands your site today.
  • Clean structured data, so Google and AI tools describe your business with the right information.
  • Honest, checkable content, never invented numbers or promises we cannot keep.
  • This work adds to our AI SEO and technical SEO services, without rebuilding your site from scratch.

The short version

Google's AI Overview is answering more and more searches before a click ever happens. That is a good reason to check what it says about your business, but not a reason to trust everything it shows without checking, Google says so itself.

A fast, honest, well-structured site is still the best foundation, whether for a human visitor, for Google, or for an AI summarizing your business in a few sentences.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI Overview, in one sentence?

It is an AI-written summary that Google shows at the very top of the results page, above the normal list of links.

How do I know if Google mentions my business in an AI Overview?

Search your business name, or a search tied to your work and city, and see if a summary block appears at the top. We can also check this with you.

Is an AI Overview the same as AI SEO (GEO)?

They are related, but not the same. AI SEO covers all the work to be understood and cited well by AI tools, including AI Overviews. See also what Agentic Browsing is, another part of this same topic.

Can AI actually get my business wrong?

Yes. Google itself shows a warning under its AI-generated answers, stating they can include mistakes. That is why it is worth checking what is said rather than assuming it is correct.

Do I need a new website to show up in an AI Overview?

Usually not. We work with your current site: clear content, structured data, an up-to-date Google Business Profile. An already fast, well-built site covers a good part of the work.

Does this replace regular SEO?

No. Regular SEO and AI Overviews work together: a site that ranks well in results also has a better chance of being picked up in an AI summary.

Not sure what Google says about your business?

We can check what Google's AI shows for your business, and tell you what actually matters. Let's talk about your site.
